Are peoples not needed in tech companies

Due to news of layoffs everyone is in fear “nowadays tech companies are running in loss” and they are also saying that ” Are people not needed in tech companies nowadays “. Many of same questions but don’t fear, I am here so, let’s begin!

Are peoples not needed in tech companies today?

2022 was the worst year in tech Industry with more than 150,000 layoffs more than 60,000 layoffs have already happened till today in this year only, 33 % more than last year and you may get surprised by hearing this ‘Still after lack of job security, still after all of these layoffs still more than 70% of young Indians want to work in this tech Industry‘, so what is the reality why there’s so much hype.

fired

Let’s talk about the harsh reality ‘ which you never heard ‘ in this post.

ceo's

So, start with the statement given by CEOs of these top companies when layoffs were happening. If you read the whole statement, they basically say it due to over hiring. Indirectly they are saying that in 2021-2022 we over hired people, now it’s time to cut. So, if you look at any data of all of these top companies which is quarterly revenue data. Revenue was firstly going smoothly in straight line. Tech industry was booming from last 10-15 years. All the time going smoothly up but then came covid and there was an exponential jump so because of covid everyone was using tech more than often they had less people to maintain the tech, so they realized they over hired. To justify that they had to cut down those jobs.

Although revenue haven’t decreased yet. Recession means in two quarters your revenue goes down, but it has never gone down for these top companies at least recession hasn’t happened at company level and it has just gone stable. Now a stable line is coming, and it is infact going up for some companies as well. Amazon who did so many layoffs they went up in the last quarter, still they Lais off almost 18000 employees in 2023. So, what is the reality why is it happening. According to their statement ‘ They’re saying that they over hired directly or indirectly ‘. Now they’re trying to invest in other departments.

layoff data

If you will see data from an Ex HR, if layoffs are happening then ‘ where most? ‘. So, there are Three areas where layoffs are more and two areas where jobs are most safe. Job is most safe in profit making teams and among profit making employees. if you are in such a team which is very booming, which is giving most profit to that company. Your chances of laying off are minimum. Even if you’re the most hard-working person in the whole company, if your team like team of blackberry, which is a failing product you will be laid off. If you’re part of HR of Finance, then you’re the next to be safe in tech industry. but you’re not safe at all if you come in these categories. For example, if you’re in event planning or benefits employees or new initiative which research that company is randomly doing just to experiment if you’re into those things then you’re at risk and most importantly if you’re a contract worker then also you are at risk.

I saw data of WallStreet general also, according to that data if your skillset is very important in terms of engineering then also your chances of layoffs are less. but along with these , There is a harsh reality By chance if you’re in profit making team or if you’re doing less work also then also you might not layoff because if you see data if you’re not productive in your office , if you’re working remote hybrid or on site , data tells that in 2022-2021 because of remote work and because of hybrid environment , Employee engagement has decreased from 32 to 34%.

Conclusion

profit

The amount of productive people was in office, they are not that much productive at home, productivity has gone down and because of loss of productivity, there is a loss of 7.8 trillion dollars according to 2022 report. This is also a harsh truth if you’re very hardworking an if you’re in a net profit-making team you can still be laid off. IF you’re not hardworking at all and if you’re in a profit-making team you might be sustain.

So, this is actually happening in all these companies. so, if you are in particular team of non-profit you are not safe.
