Ireland Replace South Africa To Join The FIH Hockey Pro League
The South African Hockey Federation has decided not to join the FIH Hockey Men’s Pro League for next season despite qualifying to win the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup played on home soil in Potchefstroom. Last year South African Hockey Association confirmed their determination to join the league in the future – ‘Hockey at its best’ – provided their teams, women’s or men’s, are of course playing field eligible.
Consequently, Nations Cup runners-up Ireland have been invited by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to join the FIH Hockey Pro League in 2023–24, they have also accepted the nickname of the “Green Machine”. Ireland’s men’s team is commenting on the announcement, Hockey Ireland CEO Ronan Murphy said: “This announcement comes at a very exciting time for Hockey Ireland as we look to increase participation in the sport and compete at the highest level internationally. The fact that our senior men are now competing against eight of the world’s top hockey teams in the World Hockey Pro League will be a testament to their hard work.
Mark Tumilty, Ireland Men’s Head Coach can’t wait to get started in the FIH Hockey Pro League: “We’re delighted this is a big opportunity for us and for men’s hockey in Ireland. It is a big challenge for us, but I have said many times before that for Ireland to progress in world hockey we need to play competitive games against the top nations. Having the opportunity to play games against the top nations in the world gave us an opportunity to grow. That is what we need, and it is a great achievement for the players. ”
“The SA Hockey Association (SAHA) is deeply saddened by the fact that they will not be participating in the FIH Hockey Pro League season (2023-2024), although we are qualifying in the inaugural Men’s Nations Cup. The remarkable progress in our team’s performance is a direct result of our participation in the previous Pro League season. As a federation we will be forever grateful for the opportunity to participate at that level. Especially since it helped our team prepare for Paris 2024. We wish Hockey Ireland and all the other teams the very best for the FIH Hockey Pro League season (2023-2024)”, commented Saha Interim CEO Shaun Betjies.
“While we will miss South Africa next season, we know that the South African Hockey Association is determined to join the FIH Hockey Pro League as soon as possible. So, it is only a matter of time. In the meantime, we are absolutely delighted to welcome the Irish men’s team and we can’t wait to see them perform in the league next season!”, said FIH CEO Thierry Weil.
The upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League season (2023-24) will be the first to implement the “promotion and relegation” principle. In concrete terms, the winners of the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup played in 2022 (India for women, South Africa – now replaced by Ireland – for men) are promoted. Both teams will replace the teams that were relegated at the end of the current season “one women’s team and one men’s team”.

Track and Field Titans: India’s Medal Haul Soars on Day 9 of Asian Games 2023!”🏃♀️🥇🥈🥉
The track and field athletes have once again showcased their brilliance at the Asian Games 2023. With 7 more medals added to India’s tally, they are truly shining on the international stage. It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication. Let’s cheer for our amazing athletes and celebrate their outstanding achievements! 🏃🏅🇮🇳
The Indian contingent at the Asian Games is on a roll, adding seven more medals to the tally on Day 9. Even though a gold medal eluded us on Gandhi Jayanti, our athletes have been incredibly impressive. With a total of 60 medals, it’s a testament to their hard work and dedication. The men’s rollerskating team and the women’s team both won bronze, showcasing their skills. Although the Mukherjees couldn’t secure a spot in the women’s doubles final in table tennis, their bronze medal is still a remarkable achievement.
Parul Chaudhary and Priti Lamba’s double podium finish in the women’s 3000m steeplechase is outstanding. And Ancy Sojan’s personal best in the women’s long jump, earning her the silver medal, is truly remarkable. The silver medal in the mixed team 4x400m relay is also a great achievement, especially with the late decision that moved India up to second place. Tejaswin Shankar’s performance in the men’s decathlon is definitely a highlight, currently leading with 4260 points.
Also India continues to shine in roller skating at the Asian Games. The women’s speed skating 3000m relay team, consisting of Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Aarathy Kasturi Raj, and Heeral Sadhu, won a well-deserved bronze medal. And in the men’s 3000m relay final, Anandkumar Velkumar, Vikram Rajendra Ingale, and Siddhant Rahul Kamble also secured a bronze medal.
That’s a tough loss for Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee in the women’s doubles semi-finals of table tennis. They put up a great fight against North Korea’s Suyong Cha and Sugyong Pak, but unfortunately, they couldn’t secure a spot in the finals. However, winning the bronze medal is still a remarkable achievement.
Parul Chaudhary and Priti Lamba winning silver and bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase is a fantastic achievement. Ancy Sojan’s silver in the women’s long jump is incredible, and congratulations to Shaili Singh for finishing fifth. The silver medal in the 4x400m mixed team relay is a great accomplishment for Muhammed Ajmal, Vithya Ramraj, Rajesh Ramesh, and Subha Venkatesan. It’s also fantastic to hear that Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath, Krishnan Kumar, Jesse Sandesh, Sarvesh Kushare, Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan, Yashas Palaksha, and Vithya Ramraj have all qualified for their respective finals. And Tejaswin Shankar’s performance in the decathlon, currently leading with 4260 points, is truly impressive.
That’s some impressive performance by the Indian archery team! Winning against Malaysia, UAE, Singapore, and Thailand in various events is outstanding. Congratulations to Bhajan Kaur, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Atanu Das for advancing to the pre-quarterfinals in the individual events. Tough luck for Ankita Bhakat, but she put up a great fight.
India’s victory over Singapore in the men’s quadrant preliminary Group B is fantastic! Way to go, Team India! 🏐🇮🇳
It’s unfortunate that Megha Pradeep and Shivani Verma finished last in the women’s canoe double 500m final, as well as Binita Chanu Oinam and Parvath Geetha in the women’s kayak double 500m final. Niraj Verma’s 7th place in the men’s canoe single 1000m final and Ribason Singh and Gyaneshwor Singh’s 8th place in the men’s canoe double 500m final show their hard work. On a brighter note, Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto’s victory in the mixed doubles Round of 32 in badminton and Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh’s win in squash mixed doubles are great achievements. Let’s hope for more success in the upcoming matches! 🏸🏓🇮🇳
